Angelo Dunya Wright was sentenced today to 16 years to life in prison for the Nov. 12, 2011, stabbing death of his mother, Lisa Marie Barber, in her Foothill Farms apartment.
Wright, 22, pleaded guilty to the killing last month after a Sacramento Superior Court jury failed to reach a verdict at his trial in June.
Authorities said Wright inflicted some 70 "sharp force" injuries on his mother, who had told a friend she suspected her son of stealing jewelry from her and that she intended to question him about it.
Judge John P. Winn imposed the term on Wright.
